Age-In-Place Home Assessments

At Happily Home, our team performs thorough home assessments to identify any challenges to safe and comfortable living as you age. We evaluate each space for accessibility, safety, and ease of use, taking into account your unique mobility needs and lifestyle. We then provide actionable recommendations, from simple modifications like improved lighting and grab bars to more significant changes such as ramp installations or bathroom renovations. This personalized approach ensures your home continues to support your independence for years to come.

Functional Movement Assessments

We go beyond assessing your house — we assess you. Using the latest technologies, our functional testing measures key aspects of movement like strength, balance, and mobility. By translating your results into easy-to-understand MET Levels, we help you see how close you are to the “5 to Thrive” benchmark — the level of fitness research shows is vital for maintaining independence and confidence at home. Re-testing over time helps track your progress and keeps you focused on what matters most: living safely, actively, and happily at home.

Aging-In-Place FAQs

HappilyHome is a Lorain County based organization started by physical therapist, Scott Magers and a small army of volunteers with a shared passion for making OUR community a leader in health and wellness solutions for individuals wanting to live (well) independently at home for the rest of their lives.

Happily Home is the first of its kind as it combines age-in-place home optimization with functional movement best practices — ensuring its members not only age-in-place safely, but also THRIVE!

Home modifications help — but your ability to move confidently and safely matters just as much. Our functional movement assessments, led by a licensed physical therapist, measure balance, strength, and coordination. We’ll help you understand your current abilities and create a plan to maintain independence for years to come.

Simply schedule your free introductory call or book a home assessment right on our website. We'll discuss your goals, answer your questions, and help you choose the best plan for your needs — whether it's a full home evaluation, movement assessment, or attending one of our community workshops..

A certified Age-in-Place Specialist visits your home to identify potential safety risks, accessibility barriers, and opportunities for improvement. We evaluate everything from bathroom safety and lighting to entryways, flooring, and daily movement routines. You'll receive a clear report with personalized recommendations and trusted local resources to make your home safer and more comfortable.

MET stands for Metabolic Equivalent of Task — a simple way to measure how much energy your body uses during different activities. For older adults, maintaining a minimum MET level of around 4 to 5 (light to moderate activity, such as brisk walking or gardening) is linked to living independently and performing daily tasks safely. Our motto is "5 to Thrive"!

Our movement assessments help identify whether your current fitness and activity levels meet that threshold — and if not, we'll guide you on simple ways to build the strength and stamina you need to thrive at home.

Prepare today and protect your tomorrow.
